On the topic of stolen fruit. As a kid, I loved our apple trees! They were planted next to the road. A country road, however, a busy country road. One day, the marvels of the fruit tree’s production would be there for our applause, the next day, the tree’s bounty gone! So, we posted signs. “THESE TREES INFECTED WITH MALUS DOMESTICA”. The loss of apples significantly diminished from our lovely Jonathan apple trees. Stealing ripe fruit is also very bad karma!
What a great update! I'm loving your substack! It's so nice to read about what you're growing and how it's going. Can't wait for your next post :)
Also, seems you're a fellow fan of the London Borough of Jams cookbook. I made the strawberry and fennel jam earlier this summer after foraging some fennel flowers from along the canals! Lillie O'Brien has such fun flavour pairings.
Hi Pernilla. Glad you’ve enjoyed the posts so far. And yes, I’d say there’s not a single poor flavour combination in Lillie O’Brien’s book. So seasonal. So unusual. She’s inspired a lot of different combinations of ingredients in our preserves.

This was a fun read. Subscribed.
These little bags might be worth a look at for our fruit cage… I’ll pass this tip on. Excellent.
